I had a glass of TBLG at the beer hall last night. I couldn't get past the buttered popcorn flavor.

I was at the beer hall last night too! I was very disappointed to learn that they did away with the DIY flights, that was most of the fun of going there. I also didn't really understand why the small handful of test beers warranted their own bar? I mean, we had a good time and all, its not like I didn't get any beer at all, just a downgrade from the prior experience IMO.

I know that the Beer Hall will ask folks to choose from selected flights during busier times, but I’m not aware of any changes made to completely do away with custom flights. Was this at the main bar?

Apart from simply being physically separated from the main bar, what issues do you have with the small bar?

Yep.

Its just a bit less convenient/special, is all. The way it had always been for me up until this past weekend was that the main bar had everything, essentially, test beers and mainstream stuff alike, and there were small pads of paper labeled 1 2 3 4 that you could write your selections on and get a flight of whatever was on, and same at the table itself once you sat down. If a server person came by and asked if you needed anything, you could simply hand them a note with your 4 selections and they would come back with your flight. That was unique; I've never been anywhere else that did it that way.

Thanks for the concern, regardless!

Hey, I just followed up with some of our Tours & Rec folks. We still offer the ability to create your own flights at the main bar, but when things are busy, we only offer our "pre-built" flights. They said Saturday was pretty crazy so it's highly likely you were there during a time that custom flights were "grounded." I'm sorry if it came across that we no longer offered them at all.

As for servers bringing flights to the table, we don't necessarily have "servers" in the Beer Hall. We have bartenders and porters and the porters don't provide table service. It sounds like someone was being super cool to you.

That system is too streamlined to not do custom flights as peak times.

How so?

In my travels, I've seen breweries that just don't offer flights at all (regardless of business level) and breweries that do something similar to what we're doing.

The only way it would be a snag is if the setup was inefficient or the staff concensus was that they didn’t want to deal with it. The beer hall is set up top notch for efficiency.

That can’t be fake. Boulevard isn’t just throwing batches in all willy nilly, that’s likely a staff sheet. There will surely be many small releases and other limiteds coming out this year too. Those labels can’t be fake.
