We are incredibly excited to announce the return of one of our most popular beers, a release that was especially meaningful for us last year. 31 Heroes Wheat IPA will return on August 5th, and we are planning a large event (and we'll be opening up the entirety of our enclosed lot to you - no need to squeeze into our taproom/patio space!) to release the beer and raise funds for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. We hope you can join us.

31 Heroes Annual Release
In August 2011, a helicopter carrying a group of military service members - many of them Navy SEALs - was downed in Afghanistan. The tragedy is considered the largest single day loss of American lives in the history of Special Operation Forces.

The 30 service members (call sign ‘Extortion 17’) plus one military K9 have come to be known as the ’31 Heroes.’ Two years ago, we were approached by some of the local family members of the 31 Heroes about brewing a beer in their honor and we released the wheat IPA to commemorate these fallen heroes on the date of the fifth anniversary of the crash. Because we were so overwhelmed and touched by the turnout and response to batch one of 31 Heroes, we have brought it back in 2017 to again commemorate this year's anniversary.

Release begins at 1pm August 5th. The beer will be available on draft and in 12oz can 4-packs at the brewery as well as in distribution, with limited edition glassware and t-shirts for sale. Like last year a portion of the proceeds of this beer, at the taproom release and in distribution, as well as all merchandise, will go to The Special Operations Warrior Foundation, which provides college scholarships and educational counseling to the surviving children of Special Operations personnel killed in the line of duty.

Quick correction of myself: due to equipment issues which are currently being repaired, we are unable to open tonight. DDH Alpha will be on tomorrow when we open instead.

Tonight only, we've got the return of Rough Draught favorite New World Otter. It's a cloudy pale ale combining a traditional Maris Otter malt bill with lively New World hops.

A little bit of housekeeping on releases/events in the works or underway for us:

FOG MACHINE RELEASE - 9/20

The latest in our ever popular series of series of limited IPA releases in 12oz cans, Fog Machine is an East Crossroads Style IPA that first made its debut at the taproom, where it was known as Meet Me in Montauk. A cloudy, tantalizing showcase of new school hops finished with the notorious Conan yeast strain, Montauk still stands as our most popular Rough Draught release, and we think fans will be just as pleased with the scale up!

We will release Fog Machine, on draft and in 4-packs of 12oz cans, at our tasting room at 5pm on Wednesday, September 20th.

The event will also serve as a fundraiser for an incredible local organization. Heart to Heart International is a Kansas City area humanitarian and crisis relief nonprofit. HHI provides aid, medical supplies, medicines and volunteers to those in need, here in the U.S. and around the world. Started in 1992, HHI has delivered $1.5B in aid to over 130 countries and involved thousands of volunteers. Learn more at: www.hearttoheart.org

HHI provides resources and volunteers around the globe, but currently much of its staff and resources are at work assisting in relief for Hurricanes Harvey and Irma (Hurricane Relief – Text HHI to 41444). A portion of the sale of every glass and 4-pack of Fog Machine sold on release day will benefit Heart to Heart International, and representatives will be on hand to talk about their organization’s important work.

THE WITCH - RELEASE 9/22

September 22nd, come and try the latest in our Artists Collaboration series! The Witch is a black gruit brewed with rosemary, sage, and black currant. The release is a conspiracy between Torn Label and Oddities Prints + Danni Parelman.

A historical style that utilizes herbs rather than hops to create bitterness, the gruit is as close to a "witches brew" as a beer style can get, which was intriguing to our collaborators. The black currant adds a great depth to the flavor and color to complement the herbal character of the beer.

The Witch will be available on draft and in 22oz bottles, with both set for release at our taproom on the Autumnal Equinox - Friday September 22nd. In addition, that same night Screenland Armour will be kicking off both the beer as well as Halloween season with a screening of the kickass supernatural horror film The Witch at 10:30pm. To commemorate our supernatural concoction, a collection of supercool merch from Oddities will include one-off glasses, hand-printed candles, t-shirts and special edition prints!

Following our taproom/Screenland release, The Witch will be available in distribution on draft and in 22oz bottles.

NEW RELEASE - OSCAR

Oscar, our German style Pilsner is a perfectly sessionable and clean yet flavorful fall lager, with floral, lemongrass aromatics and crisp, honey biscuit sweetness in beautiful balance. Oscar hits our taproom TODAY (9/13), and will be available on draft only throughout KC beginning next week. We have limited amounts of this awesome Oscar mug (https://www.instagram.com/p/BYRVnUDg81m/) available as well.

NEW RELEASE - HANG 'EM HIGH BATCH 14

Our recurring Hang ‘Em High IPA series is a bit of a Ship of Theseus experiment: every iteration a hop showcase, but the individual parts are constantly shifting, evolving and improving.

As always, we go into a new batch with the intention of highlighting the freshest and most exciting hops we can source. This time around, we partnered with the amazing growers at Kansas Hop Company to utilize some of their big, juicy Columbus hop cones for a wet hopped version of Hang ‘Em (‘wet hopped’ means the hops were used less than 24 hours after coming off the bine at harvest). Since for us enough is never enough when it comes to hops, those are complemented by a generous dry hopping of big and bold Simcoe and Amarillo.

You may also notice the addition of oats to the malt bill, which gives our outsize hop bill something to cling to, plus the infamous Conan yeast strain which results in a dryer and more floral finish with less bitterness. Available at our taproom and in distribution on draft only throughout KC beginning this week.
