outside of the Green Room, we would be super lucky if any ONE of those other companies every brewed a commercial beer. Almost as likely as we are to see Doodle brewing make a second beer.

I'm happy to see so much in planning, but I really wish the first step to starting a brewery wasn't creating a social media presence. There are folks that haven't even written a business plan or talked to a bank that have banners, shirts, hats, etc. I think this way of doing things only seems to amplify the difficulty of actually getting off the ground. I'm dying to support another local brewery, but wish people would invest the time and energy they're expending on websites and merchandise in some actual "hey, we're building a brewery" activities.

Couldn't agree more. Sadly, this seems to be the way things are now across a bunch of businesses.

So whats the deal with Wilderness Brewing Company then? GTTED just claimed to have had a "small world" by them in the what are you drinking thread. Are they Making beer? Are they going to release any beer? Anybody who donated to their kickstarter beginning to get antsy? Was the "small world" just a test batch?
ANY info would be awesome....

Seconding whatever Danner said... This list should be updated to omit all of the homebrewers who said they were opening a brewery and then just created a Facebook page for their "Brewing Company."

Fountain Head said on his blog a couple months back that he's pretty much given up on trying to get a business loan because all the banks he's talked to have told him know. It sounds like that project is firmly back in homebrew territory.

The Big Rip looks like a couple homebrewers as well... they just made their "first bulk purchase!" on Sept. 28th and then a bunch of pictures from their trip to GABF.

Friction hasn't posted a brewery related update since May 1st and there were very few business related updates before then.

Wilderness sounds like they are very close to (or have already) closing on a place in Lee's Summit. They'll still need tanks and are only planning on brewing 2 or 3bbl batches last I heard, but it's more progress than any of the above have posted.

One of the guys from Wildcard recently spent time in Texas interning at a microbrewery but other than that I've only seen T-shirts from these guys so I don't know how far along they are otherwise...

Cinder Block was at the Great Nebraska Beer Fest and had an impressive showing. Fancy jockey boxes and probably 8 or 10 beers. They said at that time that they had found a place in NKC across the river from downtown and were looking at brewing 15bbl batches.

Green Room might be the first new brewer to actually sell their beer because he already has some sort of brewing rig and a place that's up and running. However, it's my understanding that he is only planning on brewing one beer, a 60 schilling Scottish Mild. So I wouldn't get my hopes up for Green Room being the next hot brewpub. The space is limited and they don't seem to have any interest in making really ambitious beer.

I don't know of anyone who's received a shipment of Doodle beer since March or earlier. My understanding is that he's focusing on his day job and may be buying up kegs to reenter to market with some draft beer. With a 1/2 bbl system I don't know how he'd make any money doing this and it can't be fun to brew the same dubbel over and over again if you're losing money.

Martin City might be closer than we all know, who knows, no one seems to know... Last I'd heard they are working on financing and finding a location for the production brewery since converting their current space into a more traditional brewpub probably isn't going to happen.

Stuck Truck is a group of guys behind the Nano Brew Fest, right? I know their twitter says "small microbrewery in brookside" but I've never heard the name come up when people talk about potential breweries in KC.

As for the brewery in planning in Leawood I'd bet it's either the Gordon Biersch that opened earlier this year (or was that last year?) or it's a Rock Bottom or BJ's. The law got changed in KS last year to allow out of town ownership of microbreweries in the state, that's how Wichita got their BJ's, I wouldn't be surprised if one is on the books for Leawood.

The Leawood GB doesn't have room for a brewhouse, as far as I can tell, and they have a sweet deal with getting beer from across town. I'd take a BJs as another option for drinking at lunch. In my limited experience, they seem to give the local brewer a lot of leeway. I guess then the Rock Bottom in Des Moines does a lot of good one off stuff too. The ones in Portland and Cincinnati were both meh.

I'm kinda glad that Green Room is doing a normal beer (and more glad that they apparently realize 60 /- is the same thing as mild). I wish they would do like 8 normal beers a la Civil Life, but 1 > 0.

They did that taste-testing of their flagship-beer-in-planning (An Amber Lager) a while back. I attended, and none of the brews were remarkable per se, but the third iteration was both tasty and refreshing - full of caramel, nuts, and a crisp bitterness - I could see it doing well.

What I'm saying is, I wouldn't totally count these guys out.

Unconfirmed but it sounds like this person is referring to Cinder Block. December seems really ambitious if they are just now ordering equipment, then again this person doesn't know the name of the brewery so who knows how accurate the details are.

To be fair, it didn't mention the year!
