Raytown Common

Post by JEdmund » July 27th, 2018, 1:52 pm

Hi All,

I love a good California Common, and it's a style I don't come across very often. I'm very interested in trying the new one by Crane, Raytown Common. Any of you had it? If so, how'd you compare it to Anchor Steam?

Thanks!

I had it one of the first times they had it on at the tasting room. I liked it, in terms of comparison to Anchor Steam, I got more grain and crystal malt out of the Crane version. Crane had more of an ESB feel to it for me.

Definitely worth a try, let us know what you think.

Cheers

Tim

A German ESB would be a great way to describe it, I agree with you on that. Anchor's version is pretty simple, grain forward, not much to it. I enjoy both a lot though.

I gotta give a shoutout here to Cinder Block's Northtown Native, that is one of their flagships and it is tasty.

Good call on the ESB comparison. I found it to be much thicker and maltier than I'm what I'm used to with Steam. Also, less dry and less hop bite. So, overall I didn't like it more than Anchor's, but it certainly wasn't a bad beer or unenjoyable.
