Firestone Walker §ucaba

Postby EricH » February 27th, 2012, 11:24 pm

Supposedly this was released earlier today. I just now remembered about it, it was something JB mentioned last week at the FW thing at The Foundry.

Anyone see this anywhere? I'm sure it's going to be $20/bottle, but if I didn't have to work too hard to find it, I'd consider it.

I think it was $13.99 last year. Gomer's North is a safe bet, they had cases of XV sitting around for a couple weeks after release.

Even Gomers midtown isnt doing a list. They said "its coming", is all the distributor knew at this point.

Major Brands will have it ready for delivery this Friday. Not sure which accounts will get bottles this Friday though, but Royal and Gomer's are almost always the firs stops.

Any word on FW §ucaba hitting KC stores? I saw Wine & Cheese Place in STL is expecting it today (and had it on tap last night at the Saucer).

Was able to get a bottle/container of this. Now this barleywine says u can "easily age this for years". I read all the comments on American vs English barleywines on here in the Bigfoot thread, and it seems like not so much of a good idea. I've never gotten a bottle of this until this year. What are your guys' thoughts on this particular one?

Definitely would say it could age nicely for quite awhile. The gigantic malts are firmly in control on that one, the hops are mostly just there to provide balance.

At the same time, the bourbon barrel character will disappear over time, for sure, so I personally wouldn't age it for too long. It is certainly ready to drink now, either way.

If I bought a bottle today, I would probably consume it once it gets cold again here in about 9-10 months.
