...and Tapatalk uninstalled.

Postby craftbeerkc » January 20th, 2014, 10:50 pm

Sorry, guys. Tapatalk allows users bypass registering for the site via the normal means, and then there's stuff like this that allows them to bypass it entirely:

We have very specific steps that a person must take to become a member, and Tapatalk bypasses them all.

We also do reverse e-mail verifications to avoid multiple accounts and to confirm that the email address (and therefore the user) really exists and is not a spambot -- Tapatalk bypasses all of that too. I can't have that.

I was also not a fan of the "Sent from my whatever device using Tapatalk" sigs on all the posts. Add in the fact that Tapatalk is really based around generating clicks from ad views (which of course I disabled right off the bat), and that Tapatalk does not seem to care to offer a means to push new user registration towards the standard signup method and requirements.

So that's that. So much for that experiment. Sorry again to anyone that may have gotten hooked on using it here. The old mobile interface is still in place and still works fine.

Yep, I'm perfectly ok with this. The extra signature it added annoyed me too.

That's really lame of them. Thanks for giving it a try, though.

I tried Tapatalk initially, but in the end I preferred the mobile interface... Thanks for trying it and providing the details on why it won't work for us.

Bummer. I really like the app, but understand the rationale regarding bypassing membership rules.

FWIW it looks like the app will let users turn off the signature.
