When I am reading about the change it sounds like only up to 6% beer. Can any one verify this? Also it sounds like the liquor stores will be able to sell Cigs and items that are not liquor with this change.

Unless I have missed something this is not law yet. Still needs to be passed by the Senate and signed by Brownback.

Has now passed the Senate.

Personally I think this is a stupid compromise and won't really do much for those of us who are interested in craft beer. At least it's progress I guess.

Not going to affect me one bit, or any of the stores where I typically shop. I'm still not going to rely on the grocery store to have enough variety for my tastes, and don't care about tobacco being available at bottle shops. I also find it humorous that 6% is considered "full strength". I guess that may be 6% abw, though, which would equate to 7.5% abv?

Agreed.

The articles say 6% ABV, but I believe the laws in KS have always specified ABW.

It's a stepping stone to get everything in the big corporate box stores. Most of us in retail (I'm in MO now so it doesnt really matter to me annymore) are against it because now we have to compete with the likes of Walmart and Costco who can focus on making their money elsewhere and selling booze dirt cheap to get people in the door. It's nice for the consumer to have a one stop shop, but it's bad for the little guys.
