Dear Kansas AHA, BA and Support Your Local Brewery Members:

Last year, the Kansas Alcoholic Beverage Control Division informed the Kansas City Bier Meisters, a local homebrew club, that existing Kansas law does not allow for homebrew to be served outside the home for events like homebrew club meetings and homebrew competitions.

The American Homebrewers Association is supporting an effort by a coalition of Kansas homebrew clubs to resolve this issue. House Bill 2223 was drafted to allow Kansas homebrewers to legally share homebrew at club meetings and enter homebrew competitions. The bill is scheduled for a hearing before the House Committee on Federal and State Affairs Friday, February 8, 2013 at 9 a.m.

How Can You Help?

Please contact the members of the House Committee on Federal and State Affairs (listed below) and politely urge them to vote favorably on HB 2223, so that it can move on to vote before the full House. See committee contacts below. Contacting legislators is quick and easy, and every contact they get from homebrewers will help assure our success.

Thank you for your support of homebrewers, your action could make the difference in whether or not this legislation becomes law. Please forward this message to other Kansas residents/businesses that may be interested in supporting this bill.

Sincerely,

Charlie Papazian
President
Brewers Association

Gary Glass
Director
American Homebrewers Association

Thanks for sharing. Looks like it's time to talk compromise. Give the ABC what the article says they want. Sounds reasonable enough to me.

I wonder if anyone who has sent an e-mail to their rep and/or senator has actually received a response (apart from an auto-reply). I sent my e-mails last week and have received nothing.

The revised bill has passed committee in the house and now goes before the full house: http://www.craftbeer.com/action-alerts/ ... omebrewers

The wording of the bill has changed considerably, but still permits judging in contests and serving to guests in a private residence.
