Countries where you have to be 21 to drink alcohol...

If it's not necessarily beer-related, post about it here.

We still have a lot of leftover baggage from Prohibition. I feel like the 21+ phenomenon is a part of that. There's a strong puritanical stance against alcohol in many social circles here in the US. These puritanical views get pushed into policy. There are still dry counties around the country.

At least we have alcohol though. There is a slightly longer list of governments that outright ban alcohol. So I guess we've got that going for us.

Very true, I thought this chart was interesting:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._histo ... e_by_state

Shows a general trend towards lowering age in the 70's, back up to 21 in the mid-80's.

You can fight and die for your country off in some god-forsaken hellhole, 19- and 20-year olds, but don't you touch that beer or we'll put you and whoever you got it from in jail.

It's absurd. Just like imprisonment for marijuana offenses. Some of the antiquated laws in this country are beyond me.

The brain is still developing until you are 24 or 25, drinking before 17 potentially could make you lose near 10% brain power from what you would have developed.

But not many really care about health, especially our government. The real question is at what age do you think people should be able to make decisions for themselves? I think driving should be included in this too, and I'm against 16 year olds driving, but not as much as I hate the idea of 18 year olds at the bar. But I don't like the 21 year olds at the bar either, they're annoying and dumb. Maybe just let girls in if they're 18, oh wait they can already get in. There's your rant.

Damn, I would have been a certified genus. Also, I blame Americas obsession with conservative christianity.

Are you also a species?
Beer is not the answer. Beer is the question. Yes is the answer.
