Barleywines?

Postby EricH » May 10th, 2019, 8:04 pm

I just realized tonight that Barleywines are really out of fashion at this point in time, at least in this part of the world. I mean, what examples of this style are still available on either side of the state line, even seasonally?

-SN Bigfoot
-FS Old Backus (I love you, Free State!!)
-Bells Third Coast Old Ale
-FW Sucaba (assuming you can find some)
-Lagunitas Brown Shugga
-NH Pilgrim's Dole Wheatwine
-Blvd Rye on Rye (not a traditional example, that's for sure, but I think it counts?)

I think that's it. Avery Hog Heaven is now an Imperial Red style, and is really tasty, but is not the same beer. Otherwise, no more Old Crusty, Old Foghorn, Old Ruffian, J.W. Lee's, Thomas Hardy's, Old Guardian, DDC Solstice d'Hiver, the list goes on and on. It may be the one of the most under-represented styles there is now, other than super rare styles like Faro or Belgian Pale Ale.

Does anyone know of any that I may be missing? :|

I found a single of Old Foghorn at Lukas Martin City a couple weeks ago, I believe Anchor still does that one.

I did see at least one Sucaba at the 64th Street Hy-Vee earlier tonight. I am finding the special release FW beers much easier to find that I used to.
