Craft beer in the time of Coronavirus

Post by EricH » March 22nd, 2020, 1:48 pm

Yesterday, my super awesome wife went to Servaes of her own volition and picked up one the best NE IPAs I have had to date (called That! Servaes IPA, a collaboration with Boiler Brewing from Lincoln, NE and I think they still have some) along with some sort of Blackberry Cream Ale that we have yet to crack. It was a special release and they did to-go/curbside pickup, of course.

Is anyone else going out of their way to grab something at a local brewery these days? Know of any beer releases or anything worth mentioning to pick up anywhere around town?

I saw on the news that Bier Station is doing beer to go and, at least on that day, the line was 90 mins long. :o

I grabbed a couple crowlers from Transport, but my big haul was four crowlers and a keg from my favorite local brewery: Alma Mader. They didn't have any 1/6bbl kegs of Premient, but I got Conjunction which is an awesome Kolsch. I wanted to hit Sandhills too, but it didn't work out.

I'm good to hunker down for a while with this plus the stash I already had.

Honestly, I'm really surprised that breweries and liquor stores are considered an essential business during the stay-at-home order.

Has anyone else slowly been working through their cellar during this isolation time? I know I have been, so far I have mixed in a 2015 BCBS and a 2015 BBQ with the IPAs I got to hold me over. Both of these 2015 were still tasting great, lots of head on the 2015 BBQ but it died down quickly, unlike the Saison Bretts which foam for ever :)

Definitely. I hardly have any large format bottles left at this point, only a small handful.

Also, along the lines of beer to go from local places, I checked out some stuff from Transport for the first time last weekend, it was called Passive Aggressive Post It Notes, a super tasty APA. 5.5% and 65 IBUs! https://transportbrewery.com/beers-on-tap

I have done curbside pickup at Sandhills twice, and all of the beers I have had from them have been super tasty.

Hope everyone is doing well.

I'd tend to agree.

Also, Eric, nice work with the Thread Title.

Why, thank you!

I will make Sandhills the next place that we get some local beer from, hopefully tomorrow. Checking their site, their to-go prices are quite reasonable.

Speaking of Sandhills. Picked up a 4-pack of their Other Half Collab was so dang good.
